How did DIY get popular?
There was never a time where we suddenly got popular, but as we continue to improve, we continue to grow.
When did it get popular?
At first we launched with just a portfolio tool, then we introduced skills, then comments and social features. Now we have an amazing video capture app, and soon we'll be sending out embroidered patches. With every new thing we do, DIY.org gets more awesome, and more popular.
As Co-Founder how did you & Astro, Rabinovitch, and Indiana come up with the idea of DIY?
It started with an idea that Rabinovitch and I had for an animated feature movie called DIY, in which a bunch of maker kids save the world in the future. Then I met Indiana at a tech conference and we hit it off and decided to build DIY.org - a real life version of the movie. Then I met Astro at the same conference one year later and we finally had the dream team complete, so we started building it. We are all really into learning new things and getting new Skills and being versatile and awesome human beings. DIY is just our way of sharing that feeling we have.
What would you change about DIY?
There are too many things to list. Everyday we change a hundred little things about DIY and every month at least a few big things. Our job is to keep changing it to make it better. Top of my list is releasing the Skillmap, a new avatar system, hashtags, open skills (anyone can make a skill), clubs, and visualpedia.
What goals do you have regarding DIY?
We want to make the world more awesome.
What is your favorite existing skill?
Probably my favorite Skill is Fort Builder, because building shelters is so rewarding, challenging, and fun.

What are some of the new features in DIY 2.0?
The new DIY App (made by Sneakers, Chill Hank, Neckbeard, and Astro) has an amazing new video capture tool. You can touch and hold to record to create seamless in-camera edits. So you can basically direct a movie with lots of different shots, on the fly. FREESTYLE FILMMAKING. I'm so into it. Also, we have a new feature called DIY TV, which is a stream of our favorite YouTube videos. Also, everything has been redesigned in the App so its just really sweet to use and touch.
What's your job?
I direct the Skills/Creative Team.
Who were one of the first makers on DIY?
I remember seeing Gabrielino's stop motion videos pretty soon after we launched. That was really exciting!
Did you make a lot of things when you were a kid also?
Oh yeah. I was really into drawing, graphic design, animation, skateboarding, film editing, wood shop, journalism... I grew up in a redwood forest in the mountains, so I was always adventuring.
